Lighter than ever: Air Force 1 Ultra Flyknit

If a couple of days ago we were talking about all the makeovers that the Nike Air Force 1 have had in the last three decades, today we’re saying it again with the release of their latest proposal. The seven models of Air Force 1 Ultra Flyknit are already available, four for women and three for men. The monochromatic colorways will appeal to anyone.

Behind this release you have to imagine Jonathan Johnsongriffin (director of Nike Footwear Design) wondering how to unite the Flyknit material with a silhouette like the AF1. Thanks to a prototype from a 3D printer and surrounded by a team of engineers and Nike specialists, they marked with a pen the details of the upper and the Swoosh in order to define the central support points in the structure of the material that, despite having absolute flexibility and lightness, would still manage to preserve the shape of the shoe while maintaining the shoe’s morphology.

Essentially, its greatest contribution is the incredible lightness that it has achieved, as well as the breathability thanks to the shape of the polyester fibers in the fabric. And so (not only by name) it makes more sense now than ever that we see the Air Force 1 Ultra Flyknit flying so lightly through the air in the images Nike has used for its launch.

Normally the Flyware technology is used with the Flyknit material to achieve a proper fit on the foot despite it being so light. This isn’t the case here, but we are confident that the mid and high top silhouette of the Air Force 1 Flyknit is going to be the key for achieving a proper grip. They don’t miss any of the traditional technical details, such as the hidden air chamber in the midsole, the rubber sole or the use of leather for the tongue, the part of the heel or the Swoosh.

And as you of course already know, besides being ultra light and breathable, they have zero stitches 🙂
You can get them at our store in Madrid (C/ San Joaquín, 7) and soon they’ll also be available online. Once you’ve gotten them, share them with us on your social networks with the hashtag #footdistrict 🙂
