What’s behind the 21st issue of Sneaker Freaker?

foot District is proud retail partner at Sneaker Freaker. For the ones that we love sneakers, this magazine is one of the meeting point to get to know more of trends, brands and limited editions.

As retail partners, we received the 21st issue of the Spanish edition of the magazine and it caused a stir at our headquarters. All of us grabbed the issue and started to read it. Discussions around the ads of the brands, the special reports, the interviews took up the whole morning. That’s why we decided to review every issue of the magazine from our point of view.

We love the format of the magazine, it has the perfect sizing. When I opened the issue, the Onitsuka Tiger Shaw Runner caught my attention. If there is something that we love at foot District are the detailed reports that we can see at their pages. They don’t only have great pics of our beloved shoes but a story. They tell a story and here at foot District we love storytelling.

Onitsuka Tiger has launched for the spring-summer season 2014 called “My Town My Tracks” . I love marketing and Renegade Media has done a great job. For this campaign they have chosen brand ambassadors. These walk the viewers through their cities, making a stop in the coolest places of their hometowns.

Erik Garbo walks to us through the city of Navigli in this video. He wears the Onitsuka Tiger Shaw Runner.

Hummel, the danish brand, also has a report on this issue. This brand is coming back with very special reissues such as the Hummel Marathona.

The New Balance Barber Shop Pack caught our attention from the very first moment. As always, New Balance adds very special notes to their packs. The touches on the laces and the insole are awesome.

New Balance 997_SneakerFreaker

The New Balance 997 has been long awaited by the brand fans. It is the only shoe of the brand that can be made in UK and the US.

To be honest, I didn’t know much of K-Swiss and its history has impressed me. It was the first tennis shoe made completely of leather. It sponsored Ricardo “Pancho” González. He is considered by many the best tennis player ever. Now that the retro-tennis is back, we hope K-Swiss to reissue some of their best “goodies”.

If there is something that I love from Sneaker Freaker are the interviews. The reports around brands, limited editions, sneaker collectors and so on are very detailed. Sneaker Freaker interviewed the author of “Where’d you get those”. Yes, I went straight away to Amazon to buy my copy of this . It’s the guide of the sneakers and urban culture at NYC from 1960 to 1987. The influence of this book is huge. There is a course called Sneakerology at the Carnegie Mellon university that uses this book as an educational resource.

There is also room at this issue for the model collectors. Gooey Wooey has been collectin Nike Huaraches from the 90’s. A model designed by Tinker Hatfield, the genius behind the Nike Air Max.

Lastly Sneaker Freaker made a selection of the 300 sneakers for this 2014. The brand designers are doing a great job, no doubt of that.
