The SS20 collection of the Swedish brand Our Legacy (@ourlegacy) was first introduced at the Paris Fashion Week under the headline ‘Joyous Reunion’. Their spring garments travel through different cultural currents and social changes and show the brand’s approach to that kind of craft that is half way between tradition and progress.
Cristopher Nying, creative director of the brand, explained that the collection is inspired by the breakup with tradition. “The social movements who push boundaries, whether it is the anti-war demonstrations, the sexual liberation or the birth of funk”, he affirms. “Demonstrations, banners and slogans are the natural means of message for social change and therefore the collection shows inspiration by handicraft, with many different techniques and applications used to create contrast in materials and fabrics. The result is pieces of clothing as modern placards”.
For this reason, we can find a harmonious mix of retro-futuristic materials, textiles as patent leather and other fabrics inspired on latex, collages with photographs and bleached silks, amongst others. As always, the loose fit silhouettes and subtle colors are present throughout all the proposal. And the result is nothing less than the perfect cover letter of what Our Legacy stands for. The cult brand boasts a status built from experimentation and paying attention to details, with collections that explore a gap between audacity and sophistication, between familiar and irregular, achieving the perfect balance to dress a whole new generation full of attitude.
