The UltraBOOST are known as one of the best running shoes in the market. And that’s precisely what adidas created them for. The trefoil emblem focused attention on city runners and their needs in order to create a model that would meet their demands and that would showcase itself as the perfect option for the cityscape. But the truth is that its arrival to the most sought-after streetwear is owed to Kanye West.
Excessive wearing of the pavement, variable weather conditions and the constant change of different grounds are only a few of the factors that determine running in the city. And the UltraBOOST has them all well thought through. They are also the ideal model to bring to the gym or to the running track. It is enough to try them to realize their primacy. But beyond their high performance, adidas UltraBOOST has also seduced the streetwear world. Indeed: there’s no field that can resist them.
Let’s go back to their origins. The UltraBOOST were brought to life by Ben Heraz in 2015 with an ambitious slogan: “the greatest running shoe ever”. It didn’t take much to prove it. The key to their success relies on their professional design. The UltraBOOST satisfy three key technologies from adidas: Primeknit fabric, Boost technology and Torsion system. The brand came up with this model thinking about high competition athletes, in order to democratize them afterwards. Their technical features were pure running improvement, with an extra 20% bounce rate thanks to the Boost technology: outsoles made from microcapsules filled with energy that ensure optimal cushioning. Responsible for this creation is the world’s leading chemical company BASF, with whom adidas partnered to incorporate this granulated system with thousands of the so called “energy capsules”.
Reaching the top
The running market already had set eyes on the UltraBOOST, but the model couldn’t much less presume to be a phenomenon yet. The Boost technology became famous when it arrived at Kanye West’s feet, who included them in his Yeezy Boost line and wore a white pair on a show in May 2015. No other combination of colors in the original UltraBOOST caused such a huge impact as this “Triple White” version.
Kanye West converted the UltraBOOST into a classic of his wardrobe, and with him the whole streetwear scene followed. It wasn’t just a running shoe anymore, it was seen in the street, gym or on the weekends. Because that’s how Kanye did it: wearing them for everything, they probably were the shoe that we saw the rapper most with during 2015.
During these last five years, the range has been optimized to improve the running experience and to provide a new image that would ground their identity. There’s a total of six takes of the UltraBOOST line, featuring specific silhouettes for women feet and an eco version with Parley for the Oceans made from recycled plastic. And, of course, lots of other collaborations, among which were brands as Kolor, Neighborhood, Wood Wood, UNDFTD, a Kind of Guise, Bape or Stella McCartney. You can still find some of them online on Foot District.
Now, facing a world where Nike occupies the hype throne with their collaborations with personalities like Travis Scott or Virgil Abloh, adidas decided to release their UltraBOOST 1.0 «Triple White». And they guarantee to be a total sold-out. Keep an eye on our news and social media if you don’t want to miss this epic comeback.
