Jordan 4

Jordan 4

The Air Jordan 4 first appeared in 1989, combining functionality and style like its predecessors. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, its appearance broke boundaries with wings on the sides and a light netting in some areas of the upper, marking two distinguishing features that would become iconic for sneakerheads and basketball lovers.

Reborn like the Phoenix

The Jordan 4 was the first shoe to incorporate rubber parts in the upper, a technique unheard of so far. Its innovative, bold character already made clear that the model would be a success. In 1999, the public longed for a re-release, so the brand created an OG version exactly like the original of ten years earlier, millimeter by millimeter, making every sneakerhead crazy to get a pair. However, in 2012, Jordan's re-release of the silhouette was not as successful. A lot of details were missing and the retro essence seemed to have been lost. The general disappointment was evident, but Jordan knew how to solve it soon with new versions. In 2016, the Jordan Retro 4 was sold out instantly. A few seconds were enough for fans of the brand to understand that Jordan 4 had returned.

As Spike Lee says: “Do the right thing”

Michael Jordan wore the Jordan 4 in the late '80s in a gray and white colorway with the Jumpman logo highlighted in red on the tongue. The same version appeared in Spike Lee's movie "Do the Right Thing". In an AJ 4 commercial, we see Mars Blackmon (Spike Lee) making a wish to a genie played by Little Richard. Then, suddenly, Mars turns into Michael Jordan. Boom! And his wish came true. This commercial would mark the last direct collaboration of Spike Lee's character with the Jordan brand, a partnership that started in 1987.
