It's no coincidence. The collaboration between Nike and Undercover is the result of two power brands that go together perfectly, like two pieces of a puzzle, predestined to unite. The impeccable style savvy of the Japanese brand Undercover reissues one of the greatest icons of running from the 1980s, infusing its unmistakable futuristic touch and giving rise to one of the most hyped models of recent times.

The Nike x Undercover partnership

Amid a wave of tons of brand collaborations, it's easier than ever for a partnership between two brands to go unnoticed or for the hype to last only a couple of months. Nike and Undercover have managed to dodge the mainstream expectations and established themselves as one of the great exceptions in brand collaborations. Their story actually begins in 2010, when a NikeLab project set its sights on Jun Takahashi, founder of Undercover. This is how the Gyakusou line was created, a hybrid between sport and luxury streetwear. In 2018, both brands came together again to create a new version of Nike React Element 87, creating the iconic Epic, and soon after, the exclusive and innovative reissue of the Nike Daybreak, building a bridge between the 1970s and the future.

Nike Daybreak

The Nike Daybreak marks the comeback of the late 1970s. First released in 1979, their silhouette represents the classic style of running shoes at that time, with an understated and elegant look with a silhouette that screams lightness and speed. The distinctive material of the nylon and the unique heels of the outer sole, which extend to the toe to ensure visibility, really make the shoe stand out. The back has a dynamic extended clip to match the speckled midsole. Jun Takahashi, Undercover y the streetwear revolution

Undercover may have reached your ears only a couple of years ago, but that's not the case in Japan. The streetwear brand is one of the most powerful and historic brands in Japanese urban fashion. It all began when its founder, Jun Takahashi, fell madly in love with punk aesthetics, street lifestyle and the work of Rei Kawakubo in Comme des Garçons. With a visionary perspective, he decided to mix everything together to found Undercover, which would soon be sold in a retail store, called Nowhere, founded with a friend. It soon became one of the most popular clothing stores in the 1990s in Japan.

Undercover gradually tended towards a high fashion concept, always maintaining its street roots and its subculture spirit. This is how elegant punk was born, and thus its legacy extends to all parts of the world, becoming a leader in urban fashion and luxury, and forever changing the streetwear business model.
