Brain Dead emerged from a T-shirt and an email. The T-shirt was designed by Ed Davis for his brand Rat Brain and ended up in Kyle NG's hands as a gift. From that moment on, Kyle tried to contact Ed Davis to propose doing some work together.
From an initial email, a conversation about B-movies, countercultural movements, and, of course, clothing, ensued. This marked the beginning of a collaboration that evolved into Brain Dead, employing similar methods throughout its existence, oscillating between the bold and the naive.
Brain Dead, Objects as Canvases
Since its birth in 2014, Brain Dead has maintained its collaborative spirit, taking it to new places thanks to partnerships with brands like Hoka, adidas, Oakley, Converse, A.P.C., or The North Face, and artists like Ray Johnson, Mike Kelley, or DEVO. Brain Dead's strategies distance it from the ordinary, with its own cinema, Brain Dead Studios, and a collection of collectible cards with Magic.
Always unpredictable, Ed Davis and Kyle NG see Brain Dead as an artistic collective that responds to a need for self-expression and communication with other members of different subcultures.
