CARHARTT, THE AMERICAN WORKWEAR

In 1889, Hamilton Carhartt founded his own workwear brand, originally created for railroad workers, a heritage reflected in some of the logos used during the brand’s early decades. Throughout its history, Carhartt became a symbol of durable, hard-wearing garments designed specifically for workers.

Its exceptional resistance and rugged aesthetic reached various urban subcultures during the 1980s, when punk, rap, and hardcore communities adopted Carhartt as their uniform. These scenes recognized that Carhartt was the only brand capable of withstanding their demanding lifestyles.

CARHARTT WIP SINCE 1994

Carhartt WIP (Work In Progress) emerged in the 1990s, when Edwin Faeh identified the brand’s strong connection to street culture and began developing new collections based on the original American workwear, positioning Carhartt WIP in an entirely new context.

The brand reintroduced iconic silhouettes such as the Bib Overall, OG Active Jacket, Michigan Coat, and Detroit Jacket, while continuing to evolve through collaborations with brands like Converse, Undercover, Patta, A.P.C., and Sacai.
