The Origin of the Puma Suede

Originally launched as Puma Crack, it was the beginning of a recreational use for competition sneakers, and it became the protagonist of the famous photo of Smith and Carlos at the 1968 Mexico Olympics.

In 1970, Puma Crack was adapted for basketball with the advice of Walt "Clyde" Frazier and was renamed Puma Clyde. At Frazier's request, the shoe was made in suede, a material that allowed for a variety of colors. When Frazier's influence started to fade, the model was reborn as Puma Suede.

From Sports to Urban

In the 1980s, the Puma Suede reinvented itself as an integral part of urban culture. Adopted by breakdancing crews and later by skaters, its durable and comfortable design made it a key piece of street style.

Today, it remains one of the brand’s most iconic models, with its classic appearance and ability to adapt to different subcultures and trends.
