When Dr. Béla Horovitz and Ludwig Goldscheider founded Phaidon in Vienna in 1923, they were quite clear what their goal was. They were determined to publish books of extraordinary quality at an affordable and reasonable price. And so it was that the publishing house's famous format - premium finishes, generous dimensions - saw the light of day in 1937 in the form of a publication on Van Gogh, Botticceli and the French Impressionists, laying the foundations of what would become its essence as a publishing house.

After a history marked by numerous changes of headquarters and owners, Phaidon has today evolved into a benchmark in the publication of books on fashion, photography, design, architecture and the graphic arts - among other disciplines. It is particularly famous for its History of Art, which has sold 8 million copies in thirty different languages; or the books that it has published in collaboration with world-famous superstars such as Rihanna, planet-wide brands such as Nike, prestigious photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, fashion designers such as Sir Paul Smith or streetwear brands such as Supreme.
