Since the 1970s and 1980s, Yohji Yamamoto developed an approach to fashion based on minimalism, oversized volumes and a different relationship between the body and clothing. His collections, far removed from traditional structures, introduced an aesthetic defined by black, fluidity and an approach where shape and movement mattered more than ornamentation.
The union between Yohji Yamamoto and adidas created a new space within contemporary sportswear. Y-3 translated the Japanese designer’s conceptual language into garments built with technical materials and references linked to performance, redefining the relationship between fashion and sport. The collaboration opened a new visual universe where hoodies, pants, T-shirts and jackets gained a different interpretation, paving a new path for sportswear.
