Tony Magnusson started his professional skating career at just 12 years old and soon left his native Sweden to join the American circuit. Magnusson was part of the first Airwalk team and was one of the first skaters to create a brand, the legendary H-Street, designing skateboards and producing several influential skate videos that gained popularity in the 1980s and 1990s
In 1996, Magnusson co-founded Osiris, an independent skate textile and footwear brand, with Brian Reid, Tony Chen, and Doug Weston. Their initial sneaker designs, the Gorgon and Guru, were notable for their bulky and heavily padded structures, which deviated from traditional skate footwear of that time. However, it was the D3 model that cemented Osiris's legendary status.
The Osiris D3, officially the third sneaker designed by skater David Mayhew following the Osiris Mayhew and Osiris Damager, took a distinctively unique direction. Its exaggerated shapes were not only engineered to shield from impacts but also to complement the baggy pants popular at the time. Owing to its deep ties with skate culture and music, the Osiris D3 transcended functionality to become a stylistic icon. It wasn’t just skaters who embraced the D3; musicians from Avril Lavigne to Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit) soon followed.
The Osiris D3 perfectly interpreted the conjunction of tech, cyber, and skate elements from the late nineties. Its design impacted the footwear design of the time and continues to do so 25 years later.
The oversized designs of Osiris and its cultural relevance deserve a prominent place in FOOTDISTRICT, where you can choose from different models and versions of its classics.
