History and evolution of the GEL-KAYANO model

In 1993, designer Toshikazu Kayano set out to create a shoe that offered structure and support without compromising agility. Inspired by the form of the stag beetle—whose hard exoskeleton provides protection without limiting movement—he developed a silhouette designed for both running and training. This was the birth of the first Kayano.

Over the years, the GEL-Kayano series has continued to evolve while remaining true to its essence. Each new release has combined technical innovation with distinctive visual cues, making it a reference point for both runners and design enthusiasts.

Technical design for everyday use

Released in 2013 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the line, the ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 stands out for its structural cushioning capabilities over long distances. Its architectural aesthetic, inspired by buildings and automobiles, introduced a technical silhouette adaptable to a wide range of everyday situations.
