UGG, Australia, California, and Surf

UGG was born from an idea by Brian Smith, an Australian surfer based in California, who missed the sheepskin boots he used to wear in Australia while waiting for the perfect wave.

Adapted for beach use with a flip-flop midsole, Smith began selling his own boots, which became the image of California surf culture during the '80s.

UGG is a trend

Inspired by Australian style, UGG became a symbol of California culture and spirit. During the '90s and '00s, it left the beaches and gained popularity among celebrities and Hollywood stars, becoming the only footwear that could compete with Carrie Bradshaw's Manolos. Already established as an icon, André Leon Talley positioned them as his most faithful accessory.

Its evolution from surfing to fashion, from Australia to celebrities, now expands with slippers, sandals, collaborations with Opening Ceremony or Swarovski, and textile and home collections.
