The New Balance 550, long forgotten for thirty years, received a second lease on life when Teddy Santis set out to establish himself as a vital street presence.
Designed by the renowned Steve Smith, who has also produced some of the most ground-breaking models in recent decades, the New Balance 550 was one of his initial creations in 1989.
Designed to be a basketball shoe, it had a short lifespan on the court before being forgotten despite its unique style and usefulness.
Teddy Santis, the founder of Aimé Leon Dore, discovered the 550 in a Japanese catalogue. As New Balance's Creative Director, he was going through the brand's archives when that almost unknown model caught his eye.
These were the original editions, which were ideally tailored to the eighties basketball craze that was expanding concurrently with the 550. Established as an essential model, thirty years after its original launch the New Balance 550 has managed to capture the attention it always deserved.
The New Balance 550 can be found at FOOTDISTRICT in men's and women's versions, as well as in all kinds of materials and colors. An essential model to define your style.
